Workshop Description

You have to start somewhere and this workshop gives you the basics. You are introduced to the principles of appraising, accessioning, preserving and providing access to records in digital formats.

Upon completing this workshop you'll have:

  • Identified goals and objectives for addressing electronic records within your own institution's mission
  • Discussed and examined various technical and organizational issues
  • Developed a tentative plan for action within your organization

Who should attend? This workshop is intended for archivists who have a good understanding of archival principles and techniques, but who need basic training in how to apply those principles to records in electronic form.

When participants were asked "what aspect of the workshop methods/materials was most valuable to you?" responses included:

  • "Saw new solutions."
  • "Discussion of archival preservation standards was particularly useful, but all of it was valuable." - Karen Adler Abramson
  • "The discussion of various problems made the issues real."
  • "First-hand experience of instructor...quality & quantity of group discussion...helped to realize that other archivists are in thesame boat."
  • "Made interesting…good handle on audience and its needs...addressed all of them."

Attendance limited to 30.
